Like many cities, places to eat are abundant in Puerto Vallarta. With so many restaurants and food stands to choose from it is overwhelming. If you only have one weekend to spend and want to nail your meals, here is our quick guide on where to eat in Puerto Vallarta.
Best Cafe and Best Breakfast in Puerta Vallarta: Mi Cafe
Head over to Mi Cafe to start your morning. While a little off the beaten path, your trip here will be worthwhile. The atmosphere is more American than Mexican, and the restaurant definitely caters more to tourists than locals. But the food is delicious. I would even go as far as saying that the American options out shine the local options with the french toast being a personal highlight. No option will leave you disappointed here. And the coffee was the best we had in the city.

Best Street Food in Puerto Vallarta: Mariscos Cisneros
Mariscos Cisneros is a local family establishment with a full service restaurant and taco stand. It is a good sign when you find locals eating somewhere, and this place is no exception. Serving tostados, tacos and quesadillas, it would be hard to order wrong here. Our favorite on the menu is the shrimp quesadilla. A quesadilla filled with sauteed shrimp, onions and pepper and oozing with melted cheese. Make sure you order your own as you will not want to share this one.

Best Tacos in
Puerto Vallarta Mexico: Pancho’s Takos
Do not let the line outside of this tiny hole-in-the-wall deter you. Pancho’s Takos serves up some of the best tacos al pastor in the city and rivals those found in Mexico City. Made from marinated pork, flamed grilled on a spit, and served up with pineapple, onion and cilantro, these tacos are one word…delicious. The perfect combination of sweet and spicy. Whether enjoyed for dinner or as a late night snack after partying all night in Puerto Vallarta, you will only wish they were opened the next day for lunch because they are just that good.
Best Seafood Restaurant in Puerto Vallarta: Joe Jack’s Fish Shack
Not somewhere we would typically find ourselves, we stumbled into Joe Jack’s Fish Shack looking for seafood after striking out at Mariscos el Guero which was closed for holiday. (If you go to Mariscos el Guero, let us know how it is!) Although slightly more expensive than nearby local establishments, Joe Jack’s Fish Shack nailed it. An appetizer of ceviche followed by the whole fish, Joe Jack’s did not disappoint. The whole fish cooked with chilies, roasted garlic and drizzled with lemon stole the show and left us completely satisfied.
Pro-tip: Order the small fish as it is more than enough to feed two people.
